3rd grade Monet Sunsets
Students looked at the work of Claude Monet. We talked about Impressionist style of painting and the use of cool and warm colors in art. Students used warm colors for the sunset sky and cool colors for the water. Next, they painted a silhouette on the horizon. To finish the painting, students added a reflection of the sunset on the water.
More pictures to come when we get finished!
3rd grade Leaf Prints
3rd graders created positive and negative space leaf prints. They placed a leaf over black ink to block out the space. Only the negative space, or black ink around the leaf, would print. Then, we took the leaf away to get a monoprint- or one time only print, of the mark that the leaf left behind in the remaining ink. This is also called a 'ghost' print.
3rd grade Webs and Spooky Trees
3rd grade looked at a piece of stained glass and learned the basic parts that make the work. Students chose to make either a web or spooky tree. The black oil pastel lines divided the paper like the lead in stained glass. Then students painted each space with primary colors- mixing to make secondary and neutral colors. They were encouraged to mix to make as many different colors as possible.
